Cesar Chavez at United Farm Workers rally, New York City

Cesar Chavez, founder of the United Farm Workers, came to New York more than once to generate support for the farm workers. Here Chavez (3rd from right) is joined by Labor Arts historian Henry Foner (2nd from right) and others at a rally in front of the cathedral of St. John the Divine. Signs read, "Farmworkers say Boycott Lettuce-- Don't Shop at A&P."

Image by labor photographer Sam Reiss from the Tamiment Library Collections, new York University.
